What is everyone seeing out the door price on the Special? I am looking to get one and the prices are all over the place. Some have no added options and some have ABS or Sec. Looking to see what prices are. I am seeing 16200-17600 otd.

That seems pretty fair OTD. You may be able to do better.
There are some good deals in the for sale section on the forum. I'm in the same boat as you. Some bikes in the 4 sale section may be close to you and worth the savingss buying used. Some are modified and most have low miles.

round here summer you pay LIST(retail) 16,999 i think it was....and winter you get about 500 off....OTD is not a good way to compare due to different TAXES in each state.

I would guess that those OTD prices are withous ABS and security or for an older model bike. They seem VERY LOW! I would verify them and if you can get a 2009 model for that price with the options I would take it.

I highly recommend the ABS and I will never buy a bike w/o it again.

I bought my '09 DX with ABS and security system last november for $18,235 including 4 year extended warranty, fees and taxes. I had to get the extended warranty to waive the fees and to get the promotional price as per the dealer. I didnt mind the extended warranty coz their price still ended up about $1,700 cheaper than the other dealer in my area.

In AZ, there are several dealerships. Arrowhead Harley wanted $22k OTD. Dealertrack said there were only 2 left in the state (cousin is a car salesman). One was at arrowhead, and they knew they could charge whatever they wanted. Hacienda Harley gave it to me for $18k OTD. That's title, registration, taxes, everything.

Where in NE are you? I have a couple buddies who own and manage the dealership in Cheyenne, WY. They have a few DX's in and will work with you. If you are interested PM me and I'll get you in contact with them.

I think you are talking about Mavericks and I am talking to them as I will be out there Thursday to ride snowmobiles out there. I am stopping in. But if you want let me know who to talk to to get a deal.

Right now I have it worked up for a 2009 Nightrod DX with Rinehart 2-1, KN, PC, and dyno tuned for 17000 out the door. That is the best deal I have found so far.

otd

I feel really cheated. I purchased mine in June! I paid 17000 otd and it only cost me 162 to Tag Title and Tax. I have security, but no abs, wish i had abs. I also have added 3500 in accesories. The accesories is what costs alot. Not the bike purchase. If i was to do it over, i might think about buying used and getting one that had some of the accessories that I wanted already on the bike. This is the way to go to save the most money. But there is something about driving out of the showroom with practically no miles. It is a good feeling. Good luck.

They dealerships will get whatever they can for them. Last July I couldn't get the Syracuse Dealership to budge from $17,090(plus tax etc..) so I drove 2 hours south and bought mine for $14,996(plus tax etc..) in Ithaca. So they have some room to move. You just have to keep looking.

Seems like there is a lot of variability in OTD prices on the DX...

With > 10 HD dealerships within a 30-mile radius, I feel like I really should compare prices between dealerships...but doing so would require a fair amount of time. Do you think that phone calls to the dealerships would be OK or do I really need to make a face-to-face appearance to get serious pricing?

Also, how much leeway is there in buying a new bike? What tactics can I take to get the lowest price (aside from shopping at different places)?

I had been looking at used DX's, but with the stimulus package, it doesn't make much sense to buy used right now...
